Abstract
This research aims at identifying the meaning of responsibility, clarifying its linguistic and idiomatic meaning and indicating the diverse levels of taking responsibility in the light of the story of Joseph, peace be upon him. The research also highlights the consequences of taking responsibility; be they strong or weak. While writing this research, the researcher follows the objective approach of interpretation as seen in collecting the Qur’anic verses where the meaning of taking responsibility is tacitly present in Surat Yusuf, peace be upon him, and in the overall interpretation of the same Surat. In addition, the approach is also applied in the authentic Hadiths quoted in this research. Those Hadiths have been traced to their original sources. Moreover, the texts of the transmitted Hadiths have been put in between quotation marks. If it is the meaning of those Hadiths that the research transmits, only the word is documented; followed by 'Look'. Eliciting the benefits and consequences of taking responsibility; if there is any soon follows. In the conclusion, the researcher has drawn attention to the findings and recommendations of this research. One of those findings is that the power of taking responsibility stems from believing in Almighty Allah and fearing Him because it is confidential and as far as one's faith is strong; responsibility becomes stronger and increases. In addition, one knows that Almighty Allah sees him, and this embodies benevolence. Allah has described His Prophet Yusuf, peace be upon him, as one of those who do good deeds. Responsibility in Islam is a legal and moral duty, and whoever assumes something of it must do it well, clearing his responsibility, and so as not to be unfair to another party, society, or to the nation by not doing so properly.
